To everyone’s surprise, this year’s iPhone models (not counting iPhone X) didn’t see much change design-wise compared to their predecessors. However, Apple duly pitched in some brilliant new features like improved cameras, fast processor, and wireless charging, inside the iPhone 8 that shall help keep things fresh. We have compiled 20 cool tips and tricks that you can perform on your iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Cloning Your Last iPhone

If you are upgrading your old iPhone to the new iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, you can clone it by following this simple procedure. First, update your existing iPhone to iOS 11, this lets you take advantage of Apple’s new Quick Setup feature. Now, point your old iPhone’s camera to your new iPhone 8 and the two devices will connect, and after you enter your old phone’s passcode on your new phone, the quick data transfer will start.

Siri the DJ for you

Apple has added new features into its voice assistant platform, Siri. In the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus it can be a real DJ master for you. From playing a music of particular genre to creating a Playlist for you, Siri has got all the skills covered. Siri can also dictate you more information about the current song that is playing on your phone.

Two Taps to Switch Apps

The quick app switcher option may not be available as of now in iOS 11, but you can still check out on this double tap option to switch apps. To perform that, double tap on anywhere on the iPhone’s screen and you will have the list of recently opened apps.

Loop Live Photos

Apple’s iOS 11 comes with a loop in live photos. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus captures video before and after a still image is more flexible: you can swipe the photos to see the effect options, which allows you to loop or bounce your live photo, or apply long exposure effect.

Control Your Video Resolution

Both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are capable of shooting high-quality videos better than the previous iPhones. By default, the cameras will shoot videos at 4K footage at 30 frames per second, which you can counter either by going all the way up to 4K and 60 frames per second or by going down to a film-like 24 frames per second. This may result in an adjustment of file size.

Manageable Keyboard

The big iPhone 8 and an even bigger iPhone 8 Plus can be managed using a single hand. You can squeeze the keyboard to make adjustment according to your palm size. To do that, long press emoji button on the keyboard and three options will pop-up: a left-hand side keyboard, the current standard keyboard, and a right-hand side keyboard. Try what suits you the best!

Bokeh Mode Lighting Effect

In iPhone 8 Plus, users can play around with your portrait images with four newly introduced camera effects. It now holds with two lighting effects and two dramatic spotlight effects that conceal the background behind the subject.

Add Filter To Your Photos

The camera quality on both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have improved a lot and they can now click images in truest essence and keep them more natural. But, that’s not all. We now have various filters to make images even more pleasing. The iOS 11 offers an array of filters, three variations on different styles: Vivid, Dramatic, and Balck and White.

The Augmented Reality

One of the marked improvement on this year’s iPhone is Augmented Reality. Apart from its anniversary edition iPhone X, Apple is also offering the AR in iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which is backed by powerful A11 Bionic chip. With Augmented Reality, you can bring your digital content out in the real world.

Share Your Storage

The updated iOS 11 now allows you to share your iCloud space with your family members. No need to worry, you will only share the storage, your content will be private to you. You can do this by going into the Setting then, iClouds and Manage Storage.

Save GIFs on iPhone

In iPhone 8 you can now download and save any GIFs to your photo library and share them later. The photo app will store and display all your favorite GIFs.

SoS

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus holds an emergency feature whereby you protect your phone’s data against data theft. Once activated, it will lock your device by continuous pressing of sleep/wake button. This will disable your touch and face ID, and keep your phone locked.

Scan QR Codes

Hover your iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus camera to any QR printed code and it will automatically detect and scan it for you.

Customise Control Center

The new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus comes with an updated iOS 11, which now accommodate all the necessary shortcuts like Alarm, Bluetooth, Wifi, Brightness, Volume Control, and other settings, under one single screen. This way you don’t have to swipe around or visit different screens looking for the same settings.

iPhone is Personalised: It Won’t Disturb You

The iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus detects when your hands are on the wheel, to put your iPhone on Do Not Disturb Mode (when connected to car Bluetooth). When this is on, iOS silences all notifications so that your attention always remain on the road ahead.

Hide Alerts

You can now mute conversations in iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on Apple’s message app too: swipe left on a conversation and tap Hide Alerts.

Turn Off True Tone Feature

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus has got a pinch of iPad’s True Tone feature, too. The phones can now adjust the screen color temperature and brightness based on the lighting conditions you are in.

But, if you don’t want this feature you can easily toggle it in Settings>Display and Brightness or by pushing hard on the brightness slider in Control Center.

Wireless Charging

The shatterproof glass panel outside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, holds the feature to charge your phone without any wireless connection. Both support the Qi charging support, a first for Apple products, which means that you can buy a Qi charging pad, and just drop your iPhone 8 on it and it will start charging, without attaching any strings to it.

Slow Sync

Slow Sync is a way of getting more balanced images in the dark by using flash. The feature doesn’t over-expose the subject by using Camera flashlight and tries to bring the actual silhouette of the subject, perfectly balanced with its background by keeping the shutter open for longer time.

Public Places on Apple Maps

The update of Apple Maps on iOS 11, now accommodates map of Malls and Airports. You can now navigate to nearest multi-story market and navigate its different floors using your iPhone.
