Apple To Do Away With The Home Button For A ‘Function Area’ For Its Next iPhone

News has arrived that the iPhone 8 may very well feature a sea change as far as its front panel is concerned.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst for KGI, has provided some information regarding Apple’s latest version of the iPhone according to which the California-based company is set to replace its home button as well as the Touch ID sensor with an edge to edge design and virtual buttons.

Alongside the leak, a photograph has also emerged supporting the claim, depicting three possible variants of the new iPhone that shall roll out this year.

Amongst the three is one with a 5.8-inch OLED screen and a 5.15-inch useful screen size that is being set apart from the other two and is most likely to be the only one sporting the change to what is being tentatively called the ‘function area’.

The other two, one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a 5.5-inch one would come with a TFT-LCD display much like the iPhone 7 Plus.

Coming to the variant featuring the function area, it is being said that it will come with other biometric technologies to replace the fingerprint recognition technology that usually accompanies the iPhones.

Apple has been toying with the idea of the devising possible replacements to the Touch ID sensor and a recently granted Apple patent threw up a method that could enable the company to embed it right into the screen.
