Selfies have been the buzz word at the smartphone launch events for a while now and the recently launched affordable Zenfone Live (review) adds another dimension to this raging formula. The newly launched phone comes with an interesting real-time video beautification option for people who love to go Live on the fly. It is priced close to the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Lenovo K6 Power (FAQ) which certainly raises the question of how it compares against these other popular compact phones under 10,000 INR. Let’s try and answer that below.

Display and Design

In terms of design, the Zenfone Live is the lightest, slimmest, and most ergonomic of the three. The Redmi 4 too offer perks like 2.5D glass on the front and rounded corners, and the least impressive is Lenovo K6 Power which looks a tad chunky.

The K6 power has a sharper full HD display, but on a 5-inch screen, HD resolution on Redmi 4 and Zenfone Live isn’t a deal breaker either.

Hardware And Software

In terms of the hardware, all the three are powered by Qualcomm chipsets. To start with, the Zenfone Live smartphone ropes in a dated quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset and teamed with Adreno 305GPU and 2GB of RAM. The phone comes running on the Android Marshmallow based ZenUI 3.0 which weighs heavy on system resources.

On the other hand, the K6 Power is equipped with Qualcomm snapdragon 430 CPU clocked at 1.4GHz along with Adreno 505 GPU. The phone is offered with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a storage expansion option available. Lenovo also has the less resource taxing software among these three options as it close to stock android and doesn’t have unnecessary bloatware. The Redmi 4, on the other hand, is powered by latest 1.4GHz Snapdragon 435 chipset coupled with 2GB/3GB/ 4GB RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options. The phone runs on Android Marshmallow based on MIUI8.

Camera

The Camera feature is what Asus is pinning all its hopes on to drive sales for the Zenfone Live. The budget smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, auto-focus, and LED flash. Selfie enthusiasts can enjoy a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.4μm pixels, and soft light LED flash for better portraits. It comes fitted with a wide-angle lens that offers an 82-degree field of view. Asus has also introduced a BeautyLive app which enhances videos with real-time beautification during live streaming on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 features similar camera hardware. It comes with a 13-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera up front. The phone doesn’t really boast of any innovative features like the Zenfone Live but it can manage to capture decent images with adequate sharpness and color reproduction.

Lenovo K6 Power is fitted with a 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 sensor rear camera and 8-megapixel Sony IMX219 front facing camera. Based on our personal experience with the phone, we think it’s the best camera in its price range. It manages to capture a good amount of details, processes image quickly and also offers a pro mode.

There is hardly any difference in terms of megapixels counts. In terms of sheer image quality, the Lenovo K6 Power comes on top. However, Asus Zenfone Live is not too far behind and offer an option to beautify images which give it an edge of over the K6 Power and Redmi 4.

Battery and Connectivity

The Asus Zenfone Live is miles behind the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Lenovo K6 Power in terms of battery size. The new Asus phone is aided by a 2,650mAh battery which almost half the size of what the Redmi 4 (4100mAh) and Lenovo K6 Power (4,000mAh) has to offer. But the real world difference in battery mileage is far less.

Both Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Lenovo K6 Power features fingerprint sensor while Asus Zenfone Live lacks one which is a big drawback. Connectivity wise, all three of them offer hybrid dual SIM support, microSD card support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS support.

Verdict

All of the three phones are meant for people who prefer compact phones and are restricted by a budget. The Redmi 4 and K6 Power are better performers and the Zenfone Live is a lot easier and ergonomic to carry around. It also offers live beautification and good streaming audio quality which can be an added bonus for a select few who love going live every now and then. The Redmi 4 feels as the most reliable option of the three, the Zenfone Live looks the best and the K6 Power excels with camera performance.
