An unknown Smartphone player, Champone, promises to offers a ridiculously cheap smartphone – C1 for just 501 INR.

Sounds too good to be true? It probably is.

To buy the handset, you will have to register first since Champone C1 will retail at the subsidized price only in the first flash sales. This looks more like a marketing gimmick, and thus we don’t expect Champone to put up a sizeable stock for the pilot sale.

Besides, to register for the sale you will have to be an existing customer and thus, need to buy a CleanMaster app from them worth Rs. 51.

Of course, Freedom 251, which shot to instant server-breaking-fame overnight is what comes to mind.

The hope of a cheap subsidized phone left many hanging midair as Ringingbell failed to resolve the demand and supply equation.

Not only the Ringing bell’s Freedom 251, but smartphones like Namotel and Docoss X1 have also tried to lure in gullible buyers before, using a similar strategy.

Champone, however, is upfront about this being a one-time opportunity.

The registrations are already open but some issues with the Payment Gateway is being cited as a reason for temporarily suspendings services. However, the payment will be through Cash on Delivery only. That is precisely why the snag with the payment Gateway is hard to swallow.

Going through the spec-sheet, Champone C1 sports a 5-inch HD (720×1280) IPS LCD display. Under the hood, it has a 1.3GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT6735 SoC paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage. Champone C1 runs Android 5.1(Lollipop) out-of-the-box. On the camera front, it flaunts an 8 MP rear shooter and 5 MP Selfie snapper. The Handset is powered by a 2,500 mAh battery and supports dual SIM cards. Additionally, it includes a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication and 4G-LTE as connectivity options.

It’s already hard to trust a new brand, and add to that a dubious website, and recent mishaps and you have got yourself a very unreliable dynamics. Our advice is to not get your hopes up.

The new Champone C1 will be subjected to first flash sale on 2nd September. Registrations can be done before that to avail the handset.

The handset offers three color options- White, Silver, and Gold. Champone C1 will cost 7,999 INR after the first flash sale.
