The demise of the Note 7 started off rumors as to what whether Samsung would or would not turn over a new leaf with its Note series or smartphones and what the next phone in the series would look like should the company decided to do so.

July 8, 2017: Two separate news reports come up regarding the phone.

July 17, 2017: Release date (August 32) confirmed by the company, which also says that the device will be put on sale in two waves – first in September, then in October.
July 14, 2017: Samsung accidentally lets the phone out in full public via a tweet, promoting its Exynos 8895 chipset. The chipset is in both the S8 and the S8+, but the device shown in the picture isn’t either of the two, giving rise to speculations that it may be the Note 8.
The said image depicts a device with Infinity Display and even smaller bezels than the S8 duo, and matches the earlier claims regarding Samsung’s new device.
July 12,2017: The phone is now being said to be releasing on August 23, said to be a bid by the company to bring it earlier than the newest iPhone.
July 10, 2017: New renders are here, showing Infinity Display, filling in more space than the S8 family, with the same 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This corroborates the earlier rumors of the phone having a 6.3-inch display.
June 27, 2017: Price of the phone emerges on the Internet, pegging it at Rs. 72,000.
A few new specifications also pop up, which include dual 12MP rear cameras, 3,300mAh battery and the S-Pen stylus. The tentative release date of the phone now stands at the second week of September.
June 21, 2017: Another rumored date of the release of the phone comes out, saying that it be out in August at an event in New York City, ahead of the IFA in September.
Also, reports suggest that the phone may come up with a larger screen than the S8 Plus.
June 9, 2017: Reportedly, the release of the Galaxy Note 8 has been set for August, 2017, in a bid to get it out before the iPhone 8 does.
A few features of the phone, such as a 6.3-inch display, Bixby voice-assistant and infinity display (like the S8 family), 3,200mAh battery, and better biometrics for unlocking.
Also, it appears Samsung is having trouble over the placement of the fingerprint sensor.
Alternative sources has suggested the use of a Snapdragon 836 (yet to be announced) chipset in the phone, rather than a Snapdragon 835 one.
May 22, 2017: A dummy of the ‘supposed’ Galaxy Note 8 appears, that shows a display-embedded fingerprint scanner as well as a vertical dual-camera unit on the back, with a flashlight module beneath.
April 27, 2017: Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo introduces an image of the Galaxy Note 8 with a few of its ‘specifications’ written alongside the same.
These included: 6.4-inch OLED screen, Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB +128 GB memory combination, 12MP (front) and 16MP cameras, wireless charging, iris recognition, fingerprint recognition.

April 19, 2017: KGI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirms the presence of a dual-camera unit at the back, further saying that it would be the highlight of the phone with features like 3X optical zoom, dual 6P lenses and dual OIS.
March 24, 2017: Rumors about specifications and design pop up, courtesy a sketch image that depicted the phone sans a home button, very thin bezels and perforations for speakers.
February 12, 2017: Reportedly, Samsung is working on the successor to the Galaxy Note 7 under the codename ‘Baikal’.
January 24,2017: Samsung confirms that is game for bringing the Galaxy Note 8 out, puts emphasis on making it ‘safer’ than the Note 7.
December 21, 2016: Samsung reportedly turns towards LG for help with the batteries of the Note 8, instead of depending upon their own subsidiary – Samsung SDI.

Officially, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to be unveiled in September, 2017.
