Gionee A1 Lite Look and Feel

Question: How is the Gionee A1 Lite design?

Answer: If you have used Gionee A1 Plus (review) and Gionee A1 the first this you will notice about their younger sibling is how compact and lightweight it is in comparison. From a distance, the Gionee A1 Lite has the same design as A1 or A1 Plus, but there are a few differences to consider.

The phone looks appealing with a slim and handy form factor, metal on the rear, and 2.5D curved glass on the front. The bezels around the 5.3-inch display are reasonably narrow and the camera on the rear juts out a bit.

Unlike the other two A-series phones, the A1 lite shifts fingerprint sensor and the speaker grill to the rear, and that does make a difference.

Overall, the Gionee A1 design feels satisfying especially if you have had an experience of using Gionee A1 Plus.

Question: How is the Gionee A1 Lite build quality?

Question: Does Gionee A1 Lite have capacitive navigation buttons below the display?

Question: How is the Gionee A1 Lite display?

Answer: It comes with a 5.3-inch IPS screen which supports 720p resolution with pixel density of 277ppi. What works in its favor are the natural colors, good viewing angles, and good brightness levels. Though there are no issues with the display, however, most of its competitors come with full HD panels. so it would have been a wise move if Gionee A1 Lite offered A1 Lite with full HD screen.

At the same time, the display has a blue tint to it and you wouldn’t be out of your place expecting a full HD display at this price point.

Question: Does the Gionee A1 Lite have the option for automatic brightness?

Camera

Question: How is the Gionee A1 Lite camera quality?

Answer: With a 20-megapixel shooter up front, the phone is clearly aimed to woo selfie brigade. The selfie camera doesn’t disappoint in good lighting, but images take a couple of seconds to process. The beautification mode also works well. The front flash helps, but still, low light selfies aren’t anything to write home about.

The 13-megapixel rear shooter, on the other hand, is a bit of a letdown. The images taken from primary shooter suggest it has issues with metering and dynamic range and images turn out a bit washed out. Low light performance of rear shooter is also nothing to brag about.

Question: Can the Gionee A1 Lite shoot 4K videos?

Answer: At best, it can only shoot full HD videos.

Question: Can you record slow-motion videos on Gionee A1 Lite?

Software

Question: How is the software on the Gionee A1 Lite?

Answer: Gionee A1 Lite comes running on Android 7.0 Nougat based Amigo 4.0 OS out of the box. The software seems to be well optimized.  It comes with Google Assistant and also supports custom launchers if you miss app drawer.

Gionee has added quite a few apps and they do clutter the OS and experience. Most of Amigo UI has been designed well, but in our opinion, Gionee needs to rework the notification shade.

Gionee A1 Lite Review – Should you buy it?

Gionee A1 Lite is a good looking and compact phone with a good selfie camera. It’s, however, meant only for basic users who only need to engage with generic apps, and that’s why it feels a bit overpriced at 14,990. Especially when its elder sibling Gionee A1 is selling for almost the same price.
