Gionee, the smartphone making company of Chinese origin, appears to be on a plan to establish itself deep into the minds of its Indian clientele.
Continuing with its aggressive brand of marketing in India, the company has now decided to be associated with the Bengaluru-based Royal Challengers Bangalore team, which ploys its trade in the annual cricket extravaganza – the Indian Premier League (IPL) – for its tenth edition.
This association comes in the form of sponsorship, and Gionee will now be the presenting sponsor of the Virat Kohli-led team, who was also signed on by the company as its brand ambassador a couple of months back.
However, this not the company’s first association with the IPL, having already been and still continuing to be the principal of the team representing the city of Kolkata, the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The move makes Gionee the only company to sponsor two IPL teams in the same edition and we will now see the likes of AB De Villiers, Chris Gayle and Shane Watson (apart from Kohli himself) sporting jerseys featuring the company logo at the front.
Gionee’s recent activities give a clear view of what it intends to achieve right now in the country, which is, expanding its clientele in India.
The company launched its flagship smartphone for this year, the A1, in an extravagant event that also featured its brand ambassador Alia Bhatt. Apart from that, it has also signed three eminent personalities – Diljit Dosanjh, Shruti Hasan and Dulquer Salmaan – as its new brand ambassadors.
“IPL is one of the biggest carnivals on the Indian calendar. It is as big and important as Diwali with millions of fans cheering for their teams throughout the tournament. This partnership puts us at the forefront in the IPL with the Gionee brand being visible in 26 of the 56 games till the knockouts. We are immensely proud to associate with Royal Challengers Bangalore- a team that has an eclectic talent mix and has entertained its fans over the years.”
