Microsoft is currently working on a new method to directly link your Android smartphone to your desktop without the need to resort to third party apps like Push bullet (which was once humorously popular and free but is now available at a monthly subscription based model). (हिंदी में पढ़ें)

The new Windows 10 Build 16251 preview includes a new ‘Microsoft Apps’ application, that can be used to share files conveniently via Android direct share menu.

As of now, the new feature is available in a preview format for testers, and is expected to be brought out as an update soon. You can get it from here.

Here is how to link your Android smartphone through Microsoft’s new application (you’ve got to install the Build 16251 preview first, though).

  • Once you are done with installing the preview, you have to go to your PC’s ‘Settings‘ page(image at the top), where you get the option to link your ‘Phone
  • Once you have done that, you will receive an SMS from Microsoft, which will direct you to install the company’s new ‘Microsoft Apps‘ application on your phone. Login to the app using the same Microsoft account as on PC.
  • The app will now be listed in your Android direct share menu. You can tap ‘Share’ option in your browser to access it in the menu and to directly share
  • Lastly, you will get the option to choose between, ‘Continue Now‘ and ‘Continue Later‘.
  • The website you are browsing right now, will appear on the PC screen, should you chose to Continue Now. While if you chose the Continue Later option, the website will be out under ‘Action Center‘ for you to revisit it later

It is also worthwhile to mention here that the Build preview is only for Android users as of yet, with no word out on its availability for iOS users.

For now, you can share links between your PC and Android Phone. But Microsoft will be adding other Pushbullet features like Universal copy paste and ability to share app content very soon. This certainly is a powerful tool from Microsoft that most of us could use.
