Design and Build

Let’s start off with Design and build. Both the phones come with an all-metal body and both are sturdy enough to withstand day to day torcher. However, aesthetics is where Honor 7X scores heavily as compared to the Moto G5S Plus. The Huawei 7X benefits from the slim outfit, slim bezels and elegantly placed dual rear cameras on the top-right corner.

The Moto G5S Plus, in comparison, is a lot more sturdy and tempting Moto dimple at the back. Its bulky look with a huge camera bump doesn’t score well for the Motorola phone. It’s conventional 16:9 screen aspect ratio display with thick bezels, also ensures its design is not so appealing anymore.

Another thing to consider is the placement of fingerprint sensor. The Moto G5s Plus has it on the front whereas the Honor 7X has it mounted on the rear panel. Which one you’d be more comfortable is a matter of personal taste.

Overall, Comparing the two in terms of design and handling, we are inclined to side with the Honor 7X.

Display

One of the major difference between the two is display. The Honor 7X has the advantage of accommodating bigger 5.93-inch display with FHD+ (2160×1440 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. This clearly proves beneficiation when consuming multimedia content on the phone.

In comparison to this, Moto G5S Plus has a 5.5-inch FHD IPS LCD display that has 71.3 percent screen to body ratio and 16:9 aspect ratio. The display also comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. In terms of quality, the both are equally good having said that Honor 7X has a slight edge with its bigger size.

Performance and Software

Moving on, the performance that each device offer is more or less equivalent. The Honor 7X is powered by octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 659 SoC with four cores clocked at 2.53GHz, which is supported by 4GB of RAM. In the similar context, the Moto G5S Plus rocks on Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2.0GHz, coupled with 4GB RAM.

The performance of both the processors are fast, drains less battery and capable enough to handle almost everything you throw at them.

At the software front, the Moto G5S Plus comes running on the stock-Android Nougat out of the box, whereas the Honor 7X runs on the customized Android Nougat with company’s EMUI 5.1 running on top of it.

If you ask us, we would side towards Moto G5S Plus as its competent hardware is further helped by few trinkets of its own – Moto gestures, one hand mode, ambient display, etc. – that prove to be useful.

Camera and Battery

This is where you’d see a well-pronounced difference between the two.

The Honor 7X include two-rear cameras sensors with one being a 16MP sensor and a secondary 2MP depth sensor with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. Upfront, the phone includes has an 8MP selfie shooter.

On the other hand, the Moto G5s Plus packs a set of two 13MP sensors, color with monochrome sensor, to gather more light in order to enhance low light shots. For selfies, it has an 8MP camera with LED flash.

Both the phones can shoot decent images and can also shoot pictures with blur background, but the images captured by the Moto G5S Plus camera is far better than those captured by the Honor 7X. Also, the G5S Plus can shoot videos at a 4K quality, while the Honor 7X can only record videos at 1080p.

As for the battery, the Honor 7X has a considerably larger battery, 3450mAh to be exact, compared to Moto G5S Plus 3000mAh battery but, Moto holds an edge here with the fast charging support.

Verdict

The specs on both the Moto G5S Plus and Honor 7X brings the two devices awfully close, on paper but in terms of performance Moto G5S Plus is a more consistent performer. They both have a full metal design, powerful chipset, reasonable cameras, and well-optimised software. But there are still things you need to choose between.
