Huawei Partners Flex To Make Honor 5A In India

Huawei inaugurated its ‘Make In India’ drive on September 23 and will start manufacturing smartphones in India in partnership with Flex from their Chennai facility. Initially, the company plans on making 3 Million phones by the end of 2017, which in turn, will result in 2000 more jobs in the country. This will be the 40th Smartphone facility to go operation in India in the last two years.

The third largest smartphone manufacturer also plans on strengthening its after sales support and offline retail network in India. The company plans on opening 30 exclusive Huawei service centers, and partnering with 200 new service outlets and 50,000 retail outlets by the end of 2016.

Huawei’s Make in India journey will begin with Honor 5A that was recently launched in China. The Honor 5A is an affordable Android phone with a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 617 SoC,2GB RAM, Android Marshmallow and  3100mAh battery.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister, Information & Technology, Law and Justice said,

I would like to congratulate Huawei on their commitment to pursue their ‘Make in India’ vision. The Government of India is pleased to see so much enthusiasm for our “Make in India” initiative. We are working towards making India an electronic manufacturing hub. As India is set to become the second largest smartphone market, our government would like to invite even more businesses to come and manufacture in India. This is an opportune time to start manufacturing from India. The smartphone landscape in India is growing every day and such initiatives by technology leaders will help accelerate the growth of local manufacturing industry in India.
