Infinix Note 4 positions itself as a big display multimedia centric phone; one that doesn’t cost much. If you approach it with balanced expectations, it won’t disappoint.

Infinix, the new ‘online’ smartphone brand in India that’s backed by Transsion Holdings, a group that also pushes three other offline smartphone brands in India, recently started off with its Note 4.

Now, even when the under 15K price segment has more than its fair share of Note devices, the Infinix Note 4 packs enough arsenal to stand out; and the fact that it’s aggressively priced at 8,999 INR helps too.

Let’s talk about Infinix Note 4 real life usage experience and about why you should or should not buy it in our detailed review. But first, let’s get the specs out of our way.

Note: For finer details and specific questions related to Infinix Note 4, you can also refer to our FAQ article.

Infinix Note 4 Design and Build

The Note 4 is one of the rare few phones in its class to hold a sizeable 5.7-inch display (as against standard 5.5-inches). Add to that a generous 4300mAh battery and it’s burly form factor begins to make sense.

Infinix has cleverly used plastic to give it a glass and metal finish and that does work to an extent. The gloss back panel curves on the edges and reflect light falling at an angle on it. Infinix has used a lamination on the back panel to help it avoid scratches but you will still be better off using a protective case (Inifinix has one bundled in the box too). The phone is solidly built, and over the weeks, the design has kind of grown on us.

The verticle white band is the shimmery back cover reflecting light.

There is 2.5D glass on the front, a micro USB port flanked by speaker grills on the bottom and 3.5mm audio jack up top. You can peel off the faux glass back door to access two Micro SIM and one microSD slot.

Overall, the Infinix Note 4 looks good and is a well-built phone that shall appeal to anyone who prioritizes a bigger display size. We can’t help but wish it were a couple of millimeters slimmer and a couple of ounces lighter.

Infinix Note 4 Display

Since Infinix Note 4 is a multimedia first phone, display quality takes precedence here. The Full HD display panel used has good contrast and reproduces punchy colors. At maximum brightness, visibility under direct sunlight won’t be a problem even when the touch glass is a tad reflective.

The white balance is a bit off, but then we are yet to come across a device that doesn’t falter in this area in the affordable segment. Also, we would have appreciated if Inifnix had added an option for night time reading (there is an invert color mode accessible through quick settings tiles that you can rely on, though). Overall, this is one of the better displays you can get in this price range and feels convincing enough to count as a strength.

Infinix Note 4 Performance and Software

The Note 4 is powered by entry-grade MediaTek 1.3GHz octa-core MT6753 SoC. The chipset isn’t built for heavy-duty chomp, but in combination with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, the phone can muster enough power for smooth day-to-day usage.

We could install and run most of our regular apps (wallets, social media, entertainment, shopping, productivity) on the phone without any trouble. We didn’t face any issue while playing H.265 media files with software decoding, something that low-end chips like MT6737 struggle with.  At the same time, this isn’t a phone we would recommend to gaming enthusiasts out there.

The XOS software on the Note 4 is based on Android 7.0 Nougat and is quite similar to HiOS that you’d see on phones from Infinix’s sister company, Techno.

The feature rich software has extensive gesture support and is quite simple and easy to navigate through. You can swipe down to access and search through alphabetically organized app drawers, use Multiple accounts to install two of each app or shrink the screen for one hand usage. Ther are quite a few preloaded apps as well that you can not install

The fingerprint sensor on the front is incredibly fast but it isn’t the always on type. You will have to press the home button first. The audio output is fairly loud and the audio quality is fairly decent. It does get slightly distorted at maximum volume though. The signal reception and call quality have been excellent. No issues here.

Infinix Note 4 Selfie and Rear Camera

The 13MP rear camera on Note 4 can capture a good amount of details and reproduce vivid colors in good lighting. The low light quality isn’t much to write home about, but shots aren’t unseemly either. It took some efforts but we still managed to capture more than workable shots in inadequate lighting.

Infinix Note 4

Based on the price range that Infinix Note 4 is selling in, the rear camera performance is certainly above average.

The 8MP selfie camera on the phone is comparatively a more lucrative deal and is also assisted by a capable beautify mode and an LED Flash (you can adjust the intensity of flash as well). Once again, the selfie camera isn’t perfect but it’s easily among the best selfie snappers you can score for under 10,000 INR.

Infinix Note 4 Battery Backup

The 4300mAh battery on the phone can easily get you through a moderate to heavy usage day. And if you are using the inbox charger you can top it up fairly quick, thanks to the proprietary Xcharge fast charging.

We could consistently hit bed time with 20 to 30 percent battery to spare. On particular heavy usage days, you can also intermittently use the Ultra Power mode, to turn off all battery draining apps and processes.

Infinix Note 4 Review – Should you buy it?

The Infinix Note 4 has a reasonable selfie camera, vivid and sharp display, long lasting battery and an appealing design. On the downside, it’s a bit heavy and isn’t meant for heavy gamers. The Infinix Note 4 is well suited for basic and moderate users who’d prefer a quality extra-large screen for consuming multimedia content without spending too much.
