Infocus Vision 3 Review: Cheapest Phone With Full View Screen and Dual Cameras

Infocus unveiled its ambitious Vision 3 smartphone that will cater to the basic smartphone users on a tight budget. The idea here is to offer the raging modern trends – dual cameras, Face unlock, and full vision displays – at an unprecedented ultra-affordable price.

Passing on high-end features at an affordable formula has long been a dependable recipe for online success in the smartphone realm, but when we are dealing with the low-end of the spectrum, compromises are always involved. Is Infocus Vision 3 making the right trade-offs? Let’s try and evaluate that in our full review.

Infocus Vision 3 Design and Build

The demand and acceptance of full-view screens have really been a big boost to the design of affordable and mid-range phones. A few months back, we could have never guessed that manufacturers would be offering near bezel-less panels for under Rs. 10,000, but that’s actually true now.

The Infocus Vision 3 has the display dominating most of the fascia and looks pretty impressive for a budget phone. The back panel is made of plastic, but you can easily pass it as a full metal body phone. The rear panel attracts lots of finger smudges, but that’s perhaps an acceptable flaw in this budget – one that a case would fix.

The fingerprint sensor is easily accessible on the rear and so is the power button on the right edges. On the downside, the loudspeaker is present on the rear and the volume rocker is a little too close to the top.

All said and done, the Infocus Vision 3 is a pretty solid and ergonomic phone in its class. The look and feel go beyond what you’d expect in this budget.

• The phone looks great, the full-view display makes it a unique proposition in its class.
• It’s also quite comfortable to operate and wield.
• The phone has a plastic back panel with full-metal finish and feels quite solid and durable.
• The audio jack is up top, the fingerprint sensor is on the rear, and the micro USB port is at the bottom.

Infocus Vision 3 Display

The 5.7-inch 18:9 display on the Infocus Vision 3 has 720p HD+ resolution and is layered with 2.5D glass. From display settings, you can choose between standard and dynamic mode (boosted colours) and you can also choose between cold, neutral, and warm (the one we personally preferred) colour temperature presets. The display felt a little harsh on eyes in indoor lighting. The handset is usable outdoors, even though the visibility isn’t stellar.

• Vision 3 display quality feels adequate for the price.
• You can change color contrast and color temperature from the display settings.
• Auto-brightness option is present in display settings.
• Outdoor visibility is average.

Performance and Software

This is one area where Infocus is cutting corners. The handset is powered by 1.3GHz MediaTek Mt6737h quad-core processor paired with just 2GB RAM and 16GB storage (around 10GB free). Moreover, the slot is hybrid and you will have to make a choice between using two SIM cards or a SIM and SD card.

This is a modest recipe for entry-grade performance and thus restricts Infocus Vision 3 as an option for basic users. Though a few high-end games are playable, the inclusion of bare minimum sensors and limited storage space makes it amply clear that this isn’t a phone meant for extensive gaming.

The new Smile UI software used on Vision is based on Android 7.0 Nougat. There is no app drawer, but there are plenty of customization options, gesture support, some cool wallpapers, option for keeping dual messenger apps, these store and more to keep you engaged. The interface isn’t super easy to navigate but it still feels smooth and well-optimized.

• Limited storage space and entry-grade chipset limit Vision 3 as a phone for basic users.
• The fingerprint sensor on the rear is reasonably fast.
• Face Unlock feature will be added to the phone via software update (In the second quarter on 2018).
• The audio output via loud speaker is quite loud. Audio output quality is average.
• We didn’t face any connectivity issue on the phone.
• 4G VoLTE works on both SIM cards.

Infocus Vision 3 Camera

The Infocus Vision 3 has 13MP and a 5MP rear camera and an 8MP selfie shooter.

The rear camera performance is again average at best. The dual cameras can shoot workable shots in good lighting but plainly struggle indoors. The second camera sensor on the rear helps with 120-dregee wide-angle and portrait shots (with blurred background). The quality is, however, not much to write home about. The front selfie camera is an average performer too.

• Infocus Vision 3 won’t be setting any new camera benchmarks, but it’s unfair to complain at this price point
• The rear cameras can shoot workable shots in good lighting but struggle indoors and in low light.
• Infocus has also added a Dualfie mode that can be used to shoot from both front and rear cameras simultaneously (same as Nokia’s Bothie).
• Portrait mode and selfie camera quality are average too.

Infocus Vision 3 battery backup

The 4000mAh battery can easily last for a day of moderate to heavy usage. We could consistently hit the end of the day with around 30 to 40 percent juice remaining in the tank. Infocus bundles a 5V, 1.5A charger in the box which can charge the handset in around 2.5 hours.

• Battery backup is very good. Fast charging isn’t supported, though.

Infocus Vision 3 Review: Should you buy it?

The Infocus Vision 3 is an affordable phone that looks good and has a long-lasting battery. These are, actually, feature (or trends) that consumers value and would love on affordable phones. If you rank them high on your priority list, you can consider Vision 3 as an option. We can recommend the phone basic users who don’t need to do much on their phones and can manage with 16GB of storage.
