It Makes More Sense For Xiaomi To Launch Redmi Pro Rather Than Redmi Note 4 In India

After an insipid 2015, Xiaomi made a great comeback in 2016. The Redmi Note 3 was definitely a huge success and a veritable game changer. In fact, Xiaomi managed to sell a staggering 2.6 million units in just 6 months. Besides, the added success of Redmi 3S series helped the Chinese manufacturer become the third-largest smartphone vendor within India’s top 30 cities with 8.4% market share.

So naturally, the next Redmi series handset that’s slated to launch on January 19 has some pretty huge shoes to fill and merely tossing a Snapdragon Chipset inside the 5-month old Redmi Note 4, and palming it off to not-so-loyal budget Android buyers in India makes absolutely no sense.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro

The ‘Buzz word’ these days is the Dual Camera. And since the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 successor will have a life cycle of 6 months or more, Xiaomi can’t afford to be missing out on this trending feature.

It is more likely that Xiaomi will be bringing in a Snapdragon variant of the Redmi Pro and not Redmi Note 4 on January 19. Of course, to cash in on the Redmi Note 3 popularity, they might as well use the Note moniker and name it as the next iteration of the Note 3 (most probably the Note 4X).

To bring you up to speed, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro is a dual rear camera phone that also has a 5.5-Inch LTPS AMOLED display to be excited about. In China, Redmi Pro is powered by deca-core MediaTek Helio X20, which should be replaced by a Snapdragon SoC (most likely Snapdragon 653) in India.

Other notable features include USB Type-C port, Fingerprint reader on the front, IR Blaster, Hybrid dual SIM tray and a 4050mAh battery.

Now that sounds like a phone that we would like to see as the triumphant Redmi Note 3’s successor. A rehashed Note 4 Variant with Qualcomm Chip would feel bland in comparison. Of course, we are speculating regarding the arrival of the Redmi Pro in India, but that’s the only possibility that seems logical.

Xiaomi has also promoted some images on its Facebook page that its ‘Explorers’ have shot from the upcoming Redmi phone, and a couple of these are Monochrome shots. Dual camera implementation as such on phones like Cool 1, and Honor 8 couple an sRGB and Monochrome sensor together.

The dual camera implementation on the Redmi Pro, however, is different. The extra 5MP shooter is used for ‘DSLR quality’ bokeh effects. An entirely new dual camera setup in the upcoming Xiaomi Phone seems a bit far-fetched, though. The Black & White tones are most likely the result of the Mono filter in the MIUI 8 camera app.

Phones like Coolpad Cool 1 have already set the pace, and more challengers including the Honor 6X are just round the corner. Xiaomi’s next phone won’t be that big a crowd pleaser if it’s missing this trending technology.
