In an attempt to restructure its mobile operations, Chinese smartphone maker Lenovo has decided to forego the production of its Vibe series of handsets in India, and turn its focus full-time on the Moto-branded lineup of devices.

The news comes courtesy the company’s Vice President for Global Marketing Jan Huckfeldt, who further let it known that the company would, however, continue to launch a Lenovo phone every now and then.

This implies that the company may introduces its Zuk range of phones ‘labeled’ as Lenovo in the country (pretty much what they did with the Lenovo Z2 Plus handset).

The Vibe series will be discontinued now

Also, the company would indeed bring out budget phones, but would be selling them via the retail stores, thereby meaning that the brand would still be alive in India even though it shuts shop world over.

Huckfeldt cited the successful co-existence of the two (Lenovo and Moto) in the country as the primary reason behind this move and further added that main idea behind this is to use perceived brand value associated with a Motorola device.

As of now, there are three brands Lenovo is in control of now – its own Lenovo one, Moto and Zuk.

Suffice to say, with Moto, Lenovo aims to carve a niche for its own range of device alongside that of Moto, all the while utilizing Motorola’s comparatively higher brand value.

With the Moto brand, Lenovo has already brought out a slew of smartphones this year, including the likes of the Moto G5 family, the Moto C family as well as the recently released Moto Z2 Play (and many more are in the offing, now that Lenovo has decided to change its business model, and focus on Moto alone).
