Things are certainly going to heat up at Mobile World Congress this year as two Korean giants are gearing up to showcase their flagships. LG dropped a hint on its official social media about ‘always on’ display on upcoming flagship G5. With this device, LG is all set to welcome an entirely new design as hinted in some of the previous reports.

The display on new LG G5 will always display basic information like notification alerts, time and date in black and white while remaining display will remain black when phone is not in use. Of course, we have seen similar tech in the past, in the form of Motorola and Google’s Ambient display or Microsoft’s Glance Screen, but LG has allegedly taken a different root and will be introducing a new screen technology with G5.

LG with this teaser has fueled a debate in tech-community on whether G5 flaunts an OLED display or not. As per the theory, for ‘always on’ type feature OLEDs are much more suited since they don’t rely upon conventional backlights and are more power-efficient. However, Android Authority claims do not match with this general theory. It has categorically stated that G5 won’t feature an OLED display.

LG is always innovative with its IPS LCD display technology. LG G3 was the front-runner for QHD displays and the G4 had a gorgeous Quantum IPS LCD panel.More recently, LG surprised us with its V10 dual display phone. We are eager to see what LG has in stores for us this year. Now, all the LG fans and tech buffs have to wait for February 21st. That is when the company is slated to showcase G5 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Stay tuned!
