LG added another phone to its X-series, the X Venture, which is a rugged phone designed to survive extreme outdoor conditions. It adheres to 14 MIL-STD 810G standards and is thus resistant to high temperature, shocks, and drops. It can also withstand submersion in up to 1.5 meters deep water for up to 30 minutes.

If your profession requires you to operate in a hostile environment or if you are hopelessly clumsy, this could exactly be what you are looking for.

For an “extreme” phone, it certainly looks the part. Further adding to its rugged aesthetics is a dedicated key called Quick Button that opens ‘Outdoor Essentials’ app. This is a hub that can be used to directly access flashlight, activity tracker (steps, distance, calories), barometer, compass, and weather information.

The Quick Button does more. Just long press it to reach settings menu or double press it to activate gloves mode. Or you could just program it to open any other app of your choice.

The phone comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD display underlined with hardware navigation bar that also integrates fingerprint sensor with the home button. The handset also includes a 16MP rear camera with LED flash, a 5MP selfie camera with wide angle lens, and a 4100mAh which, it claims, can last for a whole day.

The chipset is where LG is being stingy. The X Venture is powered by a rather-entry-grade Snapdragon 453 octa-core SoC paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage.

The handset is already available in North American and will be gradually rolled out to parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East in the next few weeks.
