While the Mi TV 4 and Redmi Note 5 (aka Redmi 5 Plus) are already out in China, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is an entirely new device. 1. Display & Design

The first thing that draws your attention towards the Redmi Note 5 Pro is its 5.99-inch full vision 18:9 display. It is one of the first Redmi series phones to feature an FHD+ display. The IPS LCD panel comes with a color contrast ratio of 1500:1 and as per the claims has 450-nit maximum brightness.

Xiaomi hasn’t really overhauled its design but made few subtle changes. Now, thanks to a larger display, it uses on-screen navigation buttons. The phone also has a 2.5D glass on top which comes with rounded corners. The rear camera design seems to be inspired from the iPhone X’s vertically aligned dual camera setup placed in the top left corner. The Note 5 Pro is 8.05mm thick and it weighs 181 grams.

The latest 600-series chipset is manufactured using a 14nm FinFet process and comes with Kryo 260 CPU core for a 40 percent increase in improved performance. It is coupled with Adreno 509 which is said to offer superior gaming and browsing experience.

In an another first for Redmi series, the Note 5 comes with whopping 6GB LPDDR 4X RAM with 64GB internal storage. The combination of Snapdragon 636 SoC and 6GB RAM makes an excellent paring. Xiaomi is also offering the Redmi Note 5 Pro in a combination of 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM for a more affordable price.

4. Dual Rear Cameras and 20MP Selfie Camera

The Redmi Note 5 Pro also earned the tag of first dual camera phone of Redmi series. In the Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi has used a setup of a 12-megapixel sensor with 5-megapixel to offer portrait photography.

Of late, Xiaomi has turned its attention towards, Selfies and its the same with Redmi Note 5 as it comes with 20-megapixel selfie camera with Sony IMX376 sensor.

5. Beautify 4.0 AI Redmi Note 5 Pro

To further enhance your photography experience, Xiaomi has introduced a Beautify 4.0 AI. This new feature enhances images using its deep learning algorithm which is specially optimized for India. Xiaomi claims its made its engineers learn how to do perfect makeup for Beautify 4.0 AI.

The enhanced beautify mode takes care of T-zone, Skin imperfections, Eyebrows, Lips and also intelligently preserves Bindi, Nose pins and even men beard.

6. Battery

One of the stands out feature of the Redmi Note 4 was its battery and Xiaomi has retained that feature in its successor. The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 4000mAh battery which as per the company claim offers 14 hours of video playback. It comes with 5V/2A charger which is certainly not the quickest around.

7. Face Unlock

The Redmi Note 5 Pro will be first Xiaomi phone to offer Face Unlock -a  feature which started gaining popularity after iPhone X and OnePlus 5T. Xiaomi claims, it facial recognition algorithm detects and scans face in about 500 milliseconds. Xiaomi will be rolling out face-unlock for Redmi Note 5 Pro via an OTA update which will be released by the end of March 2018.

8. MIUI 9

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes running on Xiaomi’s own MIUI 9 which as per the company claims offers advanced features like image search, smart assistant, split screen, Smart app launcher, home screen customization, notification filer and few others. The MIUI 9 in Redmi Note 5 Pro is based on Android Nougat but the company has promised an Oreo upgrade at a later stage.

9. Hybrid SIM slot

The biggest disappointment of Redmi Note 5 Pro for users will be its hybrid SIM slot. A user will have to make a difficult choice between a secondary SIM and SD card. This could be a peeve point for those who use Jio as secondary SIM and still want to avail MicroSD card services. 

10. Fingerprint Sensor & Customized power adaptor

The Redmi Note 5 Pro also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It is fast and accurate. Xiaomi allows a user to store up to 5 finger imprints.

Keeping Indian conditions in mind, Xiaomi has come up with a power adapter which can withstand voltage surges up to 380 volts.

I assume you meant Redmi Note 5 Pro (ot just Redmi Note 5) and in our opinion, it will be a better choice over Moto G6. But there is a wide price gap between the two. You can also wait for Mi A2 which is expected to be priced between Rs. 18,000 and Rs. 23,000. Mi A2 India launch is on August 8.
