Made In India Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris Launched At Rs. 13,499

Samsung has been on a launch spree in the first half of 2016, as it continues to expand its portfolio in India. Continuing with the same spirit, Samsung today launched a new Galaxy Tab in New Delhi – A tablet which can scan your iris and is ready for Aadhar authentication through a secure bio-metric system. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab is priced at Rs. 13,499 and will be available at both online and offline stores.

Samsung Iris Tablet with 7-inch display

This new tablet is basically an upgrade of Samsung’s successful tab 3. It flaunts a 7-inch WSVGA display which comes with a running resolution of 600 x 1024. it is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core chipset which is assisted by 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM. It comes with 8GB of in-built storage which can by expanded by up to 200GB using a microSD card.

Like its predecessor, it will also support cellular connectivity as well as wifi. This 3G enabled tablet is backed by 3,600mAh battery and runs on Android Lollipop based TouchWiz UI.

Samsung in a press statement said the Galaxy Tab Iris will be beneficial to provide “cashless and paperless services in applications such as banking, apart from e-governance services such as passport, taxation, healthcare, and education.”

The South Korean giant will also be releasing an SDK for software to aid them in building new applications using UIDAI authentication enabled solutions for financial inclusion, payment, using secure channels. As per Samsung the new “overall offering” will help in the government’s Digital India programs such as Jan-Dhan Yojana and E-Citizen services.

Announcing the launch, Mr. Sukesh Jain, Vice President, Samsung India Electronics, said, “This is another example of Samsung’s pursuit for meaningful innovations. We see great potential for the iris-technology solution to be used as a means of directly facilitating greater inclusion in the Digital India programme. The biometric authentication can also act as an enabler in facilitating integration of financial services with the ‘Aadhaar’ initiative. The Galaxy Tab Iris addresses consumer pain points across platforms such as banking, finance, education and various citizen services by bringing enhanced usability, versatility and reliability all through one device.”
