Gionee has today launched Marathon M5 Lite in India that will retail via company’s own online website. Since it’s a Marathon series handset, a generous 4000 mAh battery is expectedly on the table. Besides, Gionee also throws in a full metal body, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage in the mix. Now that sounds quite convincing for a price of 12,999 INR.

The basic battery and metal build do take their toll and the handset is a tad heavy at 183 grams, but that’s acceptable if longevity is your top priority. The display is 5 inches in size with 720p HD resolution, and the handset draws all its horsepower from 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 64-bit processor, which is pretty much all that we see around these days in this price range (Dearly waiting for Helio X10).

The handset also includes 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front mounted selfie unit. Other features include 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and Android 5.1 Lollipop based Amigo UI 3.1. You can also charge other smartphones from this copious battery using USB OTG support.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Lite shows more aggressive pricing than what we have come to expect from Gionee. Maybe that’s the path Gionee intends to tread in 2016?
