What do you call a 6.98 display mobile phone – Smartphone, Phablet, Tablet… OR perhaps Fantabulet? Well, Micromax today introduced its biggest Canvas handset till date and christened it Canvas Fantabulet. This is definitely not the first of its kind, as we have experienced such monstrosity gigantism before in devices like Lenovo Phab Plus and numerous others (tablets with SIM cards for instance).

Bog-standard hardware specifications weigh Canvas Fantabulet down, but if you are particularly fond of extra-large display phones, the Canvas Fantabulet is worth a second glance.

Specifications-wise, we are talking 1.3GHz quad core processor (32 bit, we are guessing MediaTek MT6582) with 1GB LPDDR3 RAM, 8GB expandable storage, 8MP rear camera, 2MP fixed focus selfie shooter and a modest 3000 mAh battery. Based on the hardware, we assume the tablet is meant for basic users or for those new to the Android ecosystem.

Micromax takes advantage of the large display size and projects it as a multimedia-centric device. You can enjoy multimedia content on the adequately scaled 6.98 Inch 720P HD display, assisted by dual box DTS audio enabled speakers. On the Android 5.0 Lollipop based interface, Canvas Fantabulet further lists apps like Kindle Reader with a set of free e-books, subscription to Saavan Pro music streaming service and Eros for rich India centric video content.

Commenting on the launch, Vikas Jain, Co-founder, Micromax Informatics, said, “We ignited the phablet category with the launch of Canvas range of devices which proved to be extremely popular among the consumers. With the launch of Canvas Fantabulet we are yet again pioneering a new category that will change the way people use smartphones making it their first choice for consumption and productivity needs. The launch comes at the most appropriate time when mobile internet is on the rise and there has been persistent increase in demand for larger screens and video consumption”.
