Samsung may be currently working on the Galaxy Note 7 successor, but the Galaxy Note 8 is not the only smartphone the company has on its radar. A smartphone by the South Korean smartphone maker has appeared on benchmark website Geekbench, sporting some rather formidable specifications.

What has piqued the interest of tech enthusiasts world over is that the listing has labeled the processor inside the purported smartphone as the Snapdragon 840 (which is yet to be brought out into the market).

Samsung SM-G9600 spotted in benchmark with Qualcomm Snapdragon 840 CPU

To be fair, the name of the processor is sdm840, which is being made out to be an abbreviation of the aforementioned chipset.

Beyond the make, the said data reveals that it would come clocking at a frequency of 1.77GHz, and have a sum total of four cores.

Furthermore, it is being said that the processor would be a slightly tweaked version of the Snapdragon 820 processor, with slightly upgraded GPU and modem.

The device is being claimed to be a member of the S8 family

The other notable specifications of this phone include the latest Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS, as well as 4gigs of RAM. The scores the device manged to secure were 1782 for the single-core and 4212 for the multiple cores.

Many are claiming that the phone, identified by the model number SM-G9600 in the listing, will actually be the third member of Samsung’s S8 family of handsets, although the specifications deem otherwise.

Yes, it does appear that a new phone by Samsung other than the Note 8 is in the offing, but it is unlikely that it may be a Samsung S8 ‘Mini’ or ‘Lite’, considering the fact that the other members of the S8 family run on Snapdragon 835, making it all the more absurd that a lighter variant would come better specced than them.
