Design and Display

If you find both these phones laying on a table side by side, you would find it extremely difficult to identify which one is Oppo F5 and which one is Vivo V7+. Both these phones have 18:9 displays with nearly no border around the display. They have an extremely slim profile and both flaunts fingerprint sensor at the rear side. Built quality wise both phones are similar as they come with the metallic finish back and u-shaped antenna bands.Vivo V7+

There is a marginal difference in the screen size of these two phones as the Vivo V7+ comes with 5.99-inches display while Oppo F5 boast of 6-inch display IPS display. Major disparities are visible in the resolution section where Oppo clearly has a huge advantage over Vivo V7+. While the F5 comes with 1080 x 2160 pixels (FD+) resolution the later only has 720×1440 pixels resolution. In real life as well, the Oppo F5 display is much crisper in comparison to the Vivo V7+.

Performance and Software

On the hardware and software front, the Oppo F5 employs a MediaTek Helio P23 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM/6GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage.

In comparison, the Vivo V7+ is backed by a Snapdragon 450 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. both these phones support microSD card.

The MediaTek Helio P23 chipset is more powerful on paper as it has two Cortex-A73 cores and six Cortex-A53 cores with clock speed up to 2.3GHz. In comparison, the Snapdragon 450 on Vivo V7+ has all eight Cortex A53 cores ticking at 1.8GHz. Both chipsets are capable enough of handling most tasks and even some casual gaming. However, personally, I would lean towards Snapdragon 450 chipset which offers more reliable experience.

In software terms, there isn’t much to choose between these two phones. both of them runs on a custom skin which is far from stock UI. There are no app drawers, quick settings can be pulled up from the bottom. If I am given an option would love to ditch their default UI for stock android.

Camera, Battery, and Connectivity

Both these phones extensively rely on their camera especially selfies to market themselves. Unlike oppo F3 Plus, the F5 only manage to pack a single 20-megapixel front-facing camera whereas its competitor the Vivo V7+ features a higher-resolution 24-megapixel sensor for selfies.

Both selfie cameras are equipped with bokeh mode and beautify mode. Oppo claims to have an intelligent AI system in place which will beautify your selfie efficiently even in improper lighting after analyzing and understanding your sink texture, colours and other vital signs.

In terms of selfie test both phones perform well, but reportedly images clicked using Vivo seem to have a better measure of brightness and saturation. Oppo’s AI feature does give it a slight advantage in groupies as it can understand subjects in the image resulting in well-balanced group selfies.

On the rear, both phones are fitted with 20-megapixel rear cameras with an LED flash. Both rear cameras support Beauty mode but there is no portrait mode to offer bokeh photos. When it comes to image quality, both devices produce similar results. In low light, Oppo F5 camera appears to be slightly better than Vivo V7+. Having said that, the later has slightly warmer colours which most us prefer.

Verdict

Both these phones go toe-to-toe when it comes to selfies. So if you are a selfie enthusiasts you can’t go wrong with either one of them. Having said that, performance wise I am personally more inclined towards Vivo V7+ due to Snapdragon 450 rocking under its hood and availability of 64GB storage in the base variant.
