The Nokia 6 is a mid-range phone that will go directly up against the Moto G5 Plus, another near stock Android Nougat running handset that Lenovo is pushing in both offline and online space with all its might. Let’s stack the two against one another to better estimate their similarities and differences. (हिंदी में पढ़ें)

Design and Build

The Nokia 6 tries hard not to stray very far from the yesteryear Nokia/ Lumia design language. It’s bigger and bulkier than the Moto G5 Plus, and also feels more substantial and solid. The Moto G5 Plus, on the other hand, is more compact of the two and that means it’s a bit easier to handle.

The Nokia 6 flaunts a metal-clad design with U-shaped antenna bands and has a 2.5D glass layered on the front. The full metal back has sharp corners and seamlessly merges into the front glass. In comparison, the Moto G5 Plus would look as a plastic phone, even when a portion of it is made of metal.

Out of the two, the Nokia 6 certainly feels as a more premium product.

Display

Both phones have a Full HD resolution displays shielded by Gorilla Glass 3. The Moto G5 Plus display is a tad smaller, which makes it a tad sharper than the Nokia 6, but not in a noticeable way. When compared side by side, we like the Nokia 6 display a tad better for its more vibrant colors, better dynamic range, and contrast. Once again, the difference here is minor and shouldn’t be a deal maker or breaker.

Software and Performance

Both of these handsets are running near stock Android Nougat software and are good contenders for Android O update. Motorola and HMD have an almost similar approach when it comes to software. But yes, since Motorola doesn’t look as enthused about pushing updates this year, we’d bet on Nokia 6 getting the updates faster.

On the Moto G5 Plus, however, this software is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 processor, which is certainly more powerful than the Snapdragon 430 powering the Nokia 6. The internal storage is same on both phones, but Moto G5 Plus benefits from more RAM and a dedicated MicroSD card slot. The microSD card slot on Nokia 6 is a hybrid one, which means you can either use two SIM cards or a SIM card and a MicroSD card.

The Moto G5 Plus certainly seems to house better hardware, but the software on Nokia 6 is lighter and very well optimized so the performance gap between the two shouldn’t be a very wide one.

Camera and Battery

The Moto G5 Plus has a 12MP rear camera with dual pixel AF and a 5MP selfie camera. The rear camera is one of the best ones present under 20K and can also record full HD videos. The Nokia 6, on the other hand, has better cameras specs – 16MP rear and 8MP front – but it still lies a notch or two below the Moto G5 Plus in terms of photography.

Both phones have 3000mAh battery and benefit from optimized software and power efficient chipset. The battery backup, again, is expected to be similar.

Verdict

Both the Moto G5 Plus and Nokia 6 aspire to focus on consumer experience, rather than the hardware specifications and come very close in terms of performance. The Moto G5 Plus seems to have an upper hand when it comes to camera performance, but Nokia 6 feels more premium and is a better contender for future version updates. The Nokia 6 will also benefit from its brand value which should help escalate sales in the offline territory, the one that Nokia is keen on capturing.
