Samsung Galaxy S9+, S9 Launched in India: Price, Availability and Offer Details

Following the unpack event at MWC 2018, Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in India at an event in Delhi on March 6.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ where literally the showstopper at Mobile World Congress 2018 where the later one won the GLOMO award for the ‘best new connected device’ at this year’s annual event.

Furthermore, the S9 Plus camera received the highest DxOMark score of 99 for a mobile camera toppling previous best of 97 by Google’s Pixel 2. To further put things in perspective, the iPhone X scored 97 in DxOMark camera test last year. Like DxOMark, DisplayMate has awarded the Galaxy S9 with the tag of ‘best display smartphones” so far.

Back home in India, Samsung had already commenced the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ pre-bookings in India with a token amount of Rs 2000.

Samsung Galaxy S9+, S9 Features

With each passing generation, Samsung makes improvements on its flagship Galaxy S series phones on various front. With the Galaxy S9 and S9+ Samsung is now offering better cameras with variable aperture, faster Exynos / Snapdragon mobile platforms, stereo speakers, AR Emoji stickers, intelligent scan, faster wireless charging, and more.

Samsung hasn’t changed the size of the display from last year. The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus both come with 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch QHD+Infinity Displays. Like their predecessors, new the S9 duo also comes with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio Super AMOLED screen, with barely any bezels on the sides. Samsung has added Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top of the display to protect it from unwanted scratches. As per Samsung, the Galaxy 9 and S9+ can lit up to 700 nits brightness which is about 100nits more than the Galaxy S8 and S8+. Both devices support HDR10 content playback.

Samsung seems to have finally taken the note of feedback and added stereo speakers for an immersive experience. This time, AKG has tuned both stereo speakers and earphones for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. both devices speakers also support Dolby Atmos, which offer 360-degree sound effects.

Samsung Galaxy S9 S9+ Hardware and Software

For the Indian market, Samsung has once again relied upon its latest Exynos 9810 mobile processor which has four Exynos M3 CPU cores clocked at 2.8GHz and reaming four Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The chipset is aided by Mali-G72 MP18 GPU to meet graphical needs.

Both the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus comes with LPDDR4X RAM inside. While Samsung offers S9 with 4GB RAM, the Galaxy S9+ comes with 6GB RAM. Both phones come with 64GB or 256GB UFS 2.1 internal storage. Both phones come with hybrid sim slot where they can hold a microSD card slot (up to 400GB) in place of a secondary sim.

Both these Samsung devices run Android 8.0 Oreo-based Samsung Experience 9.0. Samsung is supporting Google’s project Treble which means both these devices have better chances of timely version updates. timely core android updates. The other prominent software features include AR Emoji which is Samsung version of Animoji’s, Bixby vision, KNOX security, Intelligent scan and few more.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ Camera

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ biggest highlight is their new improved cameras. While the Galaxy S9 features a single-camera setup, the Galaxy S9+ gets a dual camera setup on the lines of Galaxy Note 8. Both S9 and S9 Plus rear cameras come with dual apertures — F/1.5 for low-light shots and F/2.4 for normal shots. Variable aperture isn’t a common feature among smartphones. It proves beneficial in capturing images in low-light conditions.

The Galaxy S9+ comes with a 12MP + 12MP dual camera with dual Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The secondary 12MP sensor gets a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. Samsung mainly uses it to offer a Portrait mode or as Samsung calls ‘Live Focus’. Both phones come with 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.7 aperture.

Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+ India Price, Availability, and Launch Offers

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ India price start from Rs. 57,900 for the 64GB variant of S9 which goes all the way up to Rs. 72,900 for the 256GB variant of S9+. The phone will go on sale in India from March 16 onwards, however, you can pre-book the device now. Both phones will be available on Flipkart, Samsung Store and offline stores.
