Sony today launched its new flagship phone, Xperia XZ Premium,  at MWC 2017 which certainly has more than a few mouthwatering hardware specifications.

The new Xperia XZ Premium is the world’s first phone to implement a 5.5-inch 4K HDR screen and Sony has also partnered with Amazon for 4K HDR content. HDR display technology was exclusive to premium Smart TVs up until MWC this year, but now LG and Sony are two manufacturers bringing this to smartphones. The display panel, and also the rear is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

Remember Sony’s triple stacked CMOS sensor with DRAM, which we explored in detail a while back?  This new 1/2.3-inch 19 Megapixel Exmor RS sensor allows 8 times faster recording speeds which helps offset shutter lag and with shooting detailed slow-motion videos (720p videos at 960 fps!), and it has been implemented in the new Xperia XZ Premium ‘Motion Eye’ camera system. The Camera System also benefits from updated Bionz engine, triple sensor AF system, and OIS.

Apart from these start features, the Xperia XZ premium also includes IP65 and IP68 water resistance, a 3230mAh battery, and a fingerprint sensor clubbed with the side power button.

Oh and yes, Sony Xperia XZ premium is powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 Chipset, but perhaps Sony could manage to lay claims to the new Qualcomm chip because the Xperia XZ premium won’t be available at least for the next few months.

Meanwhile, you could also avail the new Motion Eye camera system on Snapdragon 820 powered Xperia XZs, which, as you would have guessed, is a trimmed down sibling of the XZ Premium.
