SpaceX got its name written in history books today after its plan to relaunch the Falcon 9 rocket turned out to be a success. The feat marks the first time a flight-proven orbital class rocket has been successfully relaunched and returned back to Earth (it was first launched and landed in April).

Elon Musk, CEO of the company, was overjoyed and said We just had an incredible day today. “This is gonna be ultimately a huge revolution in spaceflight. It’s been 15 years to get to this point. I’m sort of at a loss for words. It’s been a great day for SpaceX and space exploration as a whole.”

Besides helping accomplish Musk’s long sought goal of reusing rockets, this relaunch process would also snip back on the costs (by millions of dollars) and thereby allow SpaceX to provide launches at a 30% discount, a huge gain in the highly competitive aeronautics industry.

The Falcon 9 rocket in question was also the first ever to land on the company’s drone barge successfully.

It was used in the first stage to propel a Dragon vehicle, which was carrying supplies, towards the International Space Station (ISS) and after which it returned to the planet.

Upon ending its return journey, the rocket made its way to the company’s droneship, ‘Of Course I Still Love You’, and had a safe and clean landing.

SpaceX has really hit it big with this one and Mr. Musk has every reason to rejoice as it really is the first time in 15 years that SpaceX has undertaken such a giant leap on the aeronautical forefront.

This would surely pave more avenues and in Musk’s words ‘ huge revolution in spaceflight (space exploration)’ that will come in with newer breakthroughs accompanied by considerable cost cutting.
