The new Motorola Moto Z and Moto Z Force have been introduced to replace existing Moto flagships. Naturally, they are loaded with top of the line hardware, but what’s even more interesting are the design choices Motorola had to make.

Both Moto Z and Moto Z Force have almost similar hardware specifications, but as you would have guessed for the ‘Force’ moniker, the latter flaunts 2nd generation extremely-tough-to-break ‘shatter-shield’ protection on the display (Moto is backing it with a 4-year warranty). This further adds to the thickness of Moto Z force and facilitates housing a bigger battery.

The Moto Z is just 5.19mm thick and the Moto Z force measures approx. 7mm around the waist. The reason why Motorola opted for a super-slim design is Moto Mods.

Moto Mods are modular accessories that clip to the back of new Moto phones using strong magnets. Just like ‘LG G5 Friends’, each Moto Mod adds some extra functionality. There is one to add some extra battery juice, one JBL speaker Mod, one with a projector, and various others. Unlike LG, you don’t need to power off your phone when you connect them. These Mods can communicate with your phone using the 16 gold pogo pins placed close to the bottom. Also, Motorola assures that theses Mods will be compatible with future generation Moto devices as well.

On the front, both of these phones include a square Moto G4 like fingerprint sensor. The bottom bezel is further enlarged by Moto insignia right above it. Like all super slim phones, Moto Z and Z Force also stick to slimmer AMOLED display panels (5.5-inch, Quad HD).

On the rear, the camera module bulges out. The camera ring looks like flat-tire Moto 360 display, only the sensor strip has been replaced by a dual tone LED flash. The rear part of Moto Z and Moto Z Force looks refreshing in pictures, though we are not sure how the camera bump might feel in person.

Also, there is no 3.5 mm audio jack on the new Moto phones. You will have to live with USB Type C audio. A Type C to 3.5 mm audio jack connector will be bundled in the box.
