It seems only yesterday when Samsung bounced back with its innovative and sort-of-revolutionary flagship dual – S8 and S8+ – and we are already talking about their successors.
It’s always hard to build on huge successes but if recent rumors are anything to go by, Samsung has some pretty interesting stuff lined up for the next big S. Here is a list of attractive features that you might see on Samsung Galaxy S9 early next year.
Samsung has allegedly called dibs on the entire first batch of Qualcomm’s next year flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 845. Which implies, it will retain its competitive edge for the entire year and other manufacturers will be forced to push their flagships for later. Of course, in India, we will get the comparable Exynos chipset.
A new Samsung patent suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ could include a new Air pollution sensor. The sensor will make it possible for users to scan and quantify the quality of air around you. You could then take active measures like wearing a mask.
Bokeh shots without dual cameras
Samsung recently introduced ISOCELL Fast 2L9 and Slim 2X7 image sensors, with 12MP and 24MP resolution respectively. These new camera sensors will help Samsung avoid camera bump and the dual focus pixels on the former will help with fast focus and adding pixel 2 like bokeh effect using just one camera sensor.
Super Slow motion Videos
A reputed Korean tech site cited industry sources that reveal that Samsung Galaxy S9 camera will be able to shoot slow motion vids at up to 1000fps using a stacked camera sensor (just as the Xperia XZ premium).
Under display fingerprint scanner
Samsung had to strike out under display fingerprint sensor at the very last minute from the Galaxy S8 and S8+ due to high failure rate. As a result, we had to endure a full year of inefficacious unlocking solutions.
Recent reports suggest that we could see a functional under display fingerprint sensor in Note9, but Samsung will surely try and iron out the kinks right in time for the S9 and S9 Plus.
Apart from these features, we don’t see Samsung going for radical design improvements this generation but it’s still too soon to rule out the possibility altogether. As we get closer to the S9 launch we will have access to more credible rumors and have a better insight regarding what’s coming.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus availability
Recent reports point out that Samsung could be releasing the new Galaxy Phones a month early next year. The new Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are very likely to launch at MWC 2017 early next year, which implies that they will be available for purchase by mid-march next year.
