If given a leverage to spend Rs. 1 Lakh, what will you do? Well, you could always buy the new iPhone X. It’s indeed one of the best phones Apple has launched and can be considered a big leap forward for iOS, but at the same time, it’s also true that most of the new star features and highlights that Apple is embracing in its 10th-anniversary edition have already been on Android phones for a few generations.
So, if the only reason you want to buy iPhone X is to experience a particular feature, you must also know that you can get a similar experience on some Android smartphones too (and maybe even save a few bucks in the process).

Augmented Reality
The Augmented Reality (AR) is the next big thing happening in the smartphone land, and Apple has decided to give it a big boost by introducing the necessary hardware in iPhone X and the necessary software to developers ( ARKit in iOS 11). The new iPhone X is powered by an A11 Bionic processor that has the raw power to carry out demanding AR computing and is aided by its own neural engine to support AI.
The feature certainly feels quite interesting, but if AR is the reason you are considering buying the iPhone X, there are Android alternatives too.
- Asus Zenfone AR – The Asus Zenfone AR is the world’s first smartphone to come with an Augmented Reality feature. The phone is loaded with Google’s Tango and Daydream technology. The phone has been priced in India at Rs. 49,999.
- ARCore – Google too introduced its ARCore AI platform recently thus giving developers what they need to develop AI apps for standard Android phones (Google Pixel devices are compatible).

Face ID
The first thing that you will notice on iPhone X is the missing trademark home button. The phone uses touch and gestures to unlock the device and as for the security, it features face ID instead of the fingerprint scanner. The ‘Depth Camera’ module on the front can map your face using dot projector and IR laser and help with convenient and secure unlocking.
Now, none of the Android options seem as secure (or can work in the dark), but if it’s the convenience of unlocking your phone with your face that captivates you, here’s a list of Android phones that have face recognition.
Glass Body
Apple finally embraced glass this year, and the iPhone X too is encased in glass from both front and rear. The glass body does add to the premium look and feel of the phone yet we have seen so many devices doing the same. Here are some of the Andriod counterparts you can buy with a glass body:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- LG V30
- Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+
- LG Q6
Wireless Charging
The wireless charging is another new iPhone addition that has been on Android phone since ages. You can drop your iPhone X on a charging pad to charge it. You can also trow new Apple watch and Air pods on the same pad. This is also something you can enjoy on Android phones.
A list of Phones that comes with wireless charging support:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+
- LG V30
- Essential Phone
All Display
Bezels are on their way out, perhaps, and bezel-less is the new cool. The iPhone X radically cuts on bezels, even at the cost of eliminating basics like Home button and Touch ID. It sports a 5.8-inch OLED display with a notch on top and a black band running all around it.
But, haven’t we seen other devices doing the same? If you are charmed by the idea of display covering the entirety of your phone’s fascia, you can also go for one of these Android phones:
- Mi Mix 2
- Essential Phone
Dual-Camera with 2X Zoom
The technology which debuted on Apple iPhone 7 will treat you in iPhone X, too. The flagship device boasts a vertical 12MP+12MP dual-rear camera setup with 2X image optical zoom and dual optical image stabilization. The benefit of 2X optical zoom is that it captures pictures at a distance without much loss in detail.
Well, there are Android phones that can do the same.
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8
- One Plus 5
- MI 6
- Essential Phone
