Question: How is the Vivo V7 design?

Answer: The Vivo V7 design is inspired by its elder sibling. It’s not only neat, compact and comfortable in hands but is also appealing to the eyes. Following the latest trend, the Vivo V7 is armed with an 18:9 display which extremely narrow bezels on the sides. Despite featuring 5.7-inch display it is as pocketable as a 5.5-inch (or smaller) display phone.

The V7 features a fingerprint sensor on the rear along with primary camera and branding. The rear panel is slightly curved towards the edges which made makes it easy to hold and carry around. To break the monotony, Vivo adds twin U-shaped, faux chrome antenna lines. At the bottom, it features an audio jack, speaker grill, and primary microphone. The SIM tray with a dedicated MicroSD slot is placed on left edge.

Overall, the Vivo V7, in my opinion, scores well on the aesthetics index.

Question: How is the Vivo V7 build quality?

Answer:  The phone is predominantly made of polycarbonate which is given a premium metallic finish. Despite non-metal body, its in-hand feel is pretty solid. We noticed no flexes or creaks in the body.

Question: Is Vivo V7 Water resistant?

Answer: No, the device didn’t have any IPxx certification so it’s not water or dust resistant.

Question: Does the Vivo V7 with a back cover and tempered glass?

Answer: Yes, the V7 comes with pre-applied screen protector and bundles a back cover alongside USB cable, charger, and a pair of earphones.

Answer: No, Vivo ditches physical buttons for on-screen navigation keys. You can also opt for iPhone X like sliding gesture instead.

Answer: In the V7, Vivo is using a FullView Display. It rocks a 5.7-inch IPS Display with 1440 X 720p HD+ resolution. The display wears 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. Ideally, we would have liked a full HD+ display,  nonetheless, the slim bezels and wider color gamut and good contrast prevent it from being a deal breaker.

Answer: Apart from Face unlock, the V7 also features a fingerprint sensor which is present at the rear panel. A user can store up to 5 impressions.

Answer: Besides unlocking your phone and using it as a camera shutter, you can’t really do much with the V7 fingerprint sensor.

Answer: The fingerprint sensor is extremely fast and accurate.

Question: How is the Vivo V7 performance on a day-to-day basis?

Answer: In terms of day to day performance, there is not much to complain in Vivo V7. So far, it runs smoothly without any hiccups. It is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 450 chipset which is accompanied by 4GB RAM.

An average user shouldn’t have any performance complaints as it is competent enough to withstand casual gaming stress and constant social media apps running in the background. Having said that, the software is a bit aggressive with RAM management and apps running in the background, probably to conserve battery.

Question: How is the V7 gaming performance? Is there any gaming specific feature on offer?

Answer: We tested a number of games on the Vivo V7 including graphics intensive Asphalt 8 and Limbo and the gameplay was mostly smooth. At high settings, we did observe some frame drops, but games were very playable. At medium settings, gameplay was perfectly smooth. Vivo has added a new Game Mode that can be used to avoid interruptions while gaming.

Question: Is there any heating issues with the Vivo V7?

Answer: We didn’t notice any heating issues with the Vivo V7, the temperature remained well-balanced at all times.

Question: Does the Vivo V7 support Google cardboard and other VR Apps? Does the Vivo V7 have gyroscope sensor?

Answer: Gyroscope sensor is present on the phone. VR apps work fine.

Question: How is the Vivo V7 camera quality?

Answer: The Vivo V7 rear camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF. Vivo has also added a software-powered Portrait Mode in the rear camera for Bokeh effect. In our limited testing, the Vivo V7 rear camera managed to capture decent clicks, in ideal photography conditions. Still, we require more testing to come to a final conclusion on the Vivo V7 camera.

Question: How is the selfie camera on the Vivo V7?

Answer: Up front, Vivo V7 has a 24MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.It too comes with portrait mode, and there is also beautify options are on offer. Like Asus, Vivo has now also added Live Beautification for Videos.

In our preliminary testing, we found that the selfie camera quality has definitely improved. The details, colors, and contrast in self-portraits are very good, but the camera struggles with metering when there is a light source in the background.

Answer: Yes. You can shoot 4K videos using the rear camera.

Question: How is the software on the Vivo V7? 

Answer: The Vivo V7 has a highly customized version of Android 7.1.2 Nougat (Funtouch OS 3.2). Like most Chinese ROMs, the Vivo V7 draws inspiration from Apple’s iOS be it icons or quick settings. What’s really work in its favour though are the vast number of options and features it offers. Be it a double tap to wake, custom call recording, smart gestures, or face unlock it offers most of the features one could expect or would need.

The UI transitions are smooth and using gesture for navigation adds little more spice to the user experience. There are a few pre-installed apps on the phone, but you can uninstall most of them.

The best thing about the Vivo V7 is its attractive and ergonomic design (full-view panel helps) and improved selfie camera.
