DoT has made it easier for consumers to link their Adhaar card to their mobile number. To accelerate the re-verification process, DoT has added new methods that will allow consumers to link the two right from their home without paying a visit to a nearby store. To do so, Government has introduced three new methods which are as follows

Three ways to link mobile number to Adhaar card from your home (online and IVRS):

  • OTP verification

This process will make use of a mobile number that was already linked with Ahdaar card during Adhaar card registration. The OTP sent to these mobile numbers will then be verified through online websites or Apps

  • Using Apps

Though we have seen Adhaar compliant devices in the past that can capture your biometric data like fingerprints and Iris scans and match them against UIDAI, but that’s not how re-verification using Apps would work. Authentication via apps is likely to be based on the mobile number that’s already registered with your Adhaar card.

  • IVRS (Interactive Voice Response)

You will also be able to call toll free numbers to get your Adhaar card linked to your phone.

DoT has also ordered operators to arrange for doorstep verification for differently abled, chronically ill and senior citizens. The service shall be arranged after consumer drops in an online request.

So, basically, using these new methods (baring door-step visits) you will only be able to get the re-verification done for numbers that you already registered with your Adhaar card.

The Ahdaar database has nearly 50 crore mobile numbers as of now, and thus these new re-verification methods could potentially offload a lot of burden from operator stores.

Last date for linking Adhaar Card and Mobile Numbers In India

The last date for re-verification of mobile numbers has now been extended from February 6, 2018, to March 31, 2018.
