Xiaomi Mi 5c Powered by Company’s Own SurgeS1 SoC Goes Official

A subject of constant speculation since it leaked for the very first time, Xiaomi’s first ever smartphone to feature its in-house processor, the Mi 5c, has been made official.

The processor, called SurgeS1, is a result of a collaboration between Xiaomi and a company called Beijing Electronics Company (something that we talked about earlier).

By doing so, Xiaomi has joined the likes of Huawei and Samsung as companies that make their own chipsets. The processor (SurgeS1) comprises of a sum total of eight Cortex-A53 cores, out of which four clock a speed of 2.2Ghz, while the other half clocks in at 1.4Ghz.

Primarily a mid-range offering, the Mi 5c currently runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow but will get the MIUI 8 update (based on Android Nougat) soon.

Sporting a 5.15-inch full HD display, the phone carries with itself a primary storage capacity of 64GB and has a 3GB RAM. The Mi 5c packs in a 2,860mAh battery that comes along with provisions for 9V/2A quick charging. The phone is rich with connectivity options, that include 4G, VoLTE, Infrared, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

Furthermore, there is a 12MP camera on the back which comes with a LED flash and 1.2-micron pixel size and an 8MP one on the front, that one can make use of for photography and other optical uses.

As is the custom with Xiaomi phones, the Mi 5c will first see an exclusive release in China (where it will be up for sale starting 3rd March). The phone is available in three color variants – gold, rose gold and black and is priced at RMB 1,499 (Approx. Rs. 14,500).
