Quite recently, Xiaomi joined the rather short list of mobile phone chipset makers with the launch of its home made Surge S1 chipset that powered Mi 5c. Now, images of Mi 6c that’s powered by surge S2, the second generation Xiaomi chip, have surfaced online.

Reportedly, Surge S2 is a 16nm process based octa-core SoC manufactured by TSMC. It has 4 Cortex-A73 cores ticking at 2.2GHz and other 4 Cortex-A53 cores in performance cluster clocked at 1.8GHz. For graphics, the SoC includes Mali-G71MP12. On Mi 6c, Surge S2 will be assisted by LPDDR4 RAM (4GB/6GB) and EMMC 2.1 storage(64GB/ 128GB).

Of course, using the in house chipset will also help Xiaomi keep a more aggressive retail price.

If the new information is to be believed, Xiomi Mi 6c will flaunt a glass back, Aluminum frame,  and 2.5D Glass front with very narrow bezels surrounding the display. The phone is also likely to ditch the universal 3.5mm audio jack.

The primary camera on the rear will have 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor along with optical image stabilization, and there will be a secondary 5MP sensor on the rear as well for depth sensing.

The new Xiaomi phone is expected to go live very soon.
